SHAWKAT AMIN KORKI
Shawkat Amin Korki was born in 1973 in Zakho, Iraqi Kurdistan. In 1975, fearing reprisals from the Iraqi regime, he and his family fled to Iran and remained there until 1999. Shawkat Amin has worked in theater, as well as Iranian and Iraqi television. His short films have been shown at various international film festivals and some have won awards. Corky shot his first feature film “Crossing the Dust” in 2006 in Iraqi Kurdistan. The film received numerous international awards and was nominated for the first APSA Directing Achievement Award. His second film "Kick Off" (2009), won 12 international awards, including the Busan New Streams Prize and the FIPRESCI Prize.
ABOUT THE FILM
After the fall of the military regime in Iraq, childhood friends Hussein and Alan decide to make a feature film about the Kurdish genocide. Filming in the post-war Kurdistan Region turns into an absolute nightmare - it is impossible to find a leading actress. Friends are ready to give up when one day a girl named Sinor comes to audition for them - she is young, beautiful and wants to star in this particular film. Sinor's desire to take part in the filming is not enough - first she needs to get permission from her family, who do not consider filming a suitable occupation for a girl from a noble family ...
