SAHIM OMAR KALIFF
Sahim was born in 1980 in Zahu, Iraqi Kurdistan. In 2001 he moved to Belgium and studied film at the Brussels Film School of Sint-Lucas, from which he graduated with the short film Nan (2008). This short film earned him the same year a prize from the Flanders Audiovisual Foundation, which enabled him to write and direct his first professional short film, Country of Heroes (2010), for which he received the Jury Award of the 61st Berlinale (Generation). His subsequent short films Baghdad Messi (2012) and Bad Shooter (2014) were also festival favorites, and both were shortlisted for an Academy Award.
ABOUT THE FILM
Havin, the young wife of the Kurdish shepherd Zagros, is accused of adultery. She flees with her daughter Raikhan from Kurdistan to Brussels. Convinced of her innocence and confident that they can build a new life together, Zagros sneaks into the West to join them. Zagros' father follows him and manages to sow poisonous seeds of doubt about Havin's loyalty in his son's mind.
